🍒 The ONLY Peaceful Barb for Community Tanks

Unlike Tiger Barbs, Rosy Barbs, and most other barbs (which are notorious fin-nippers), Cherry Barbs are exceptionally peaceful. They can safely be kept with long-finned fish (Angelfish, Bettas in larger tanks), livebearers, tetras, rasboras, Corydoras, and small Gouramis. 6+ group is mandatory — males display their best cherry-red coloration when competing for female attention in a group. Sexual dimorphism: males are brilliant cherry-red; females are brownish-gold with a darker lateral line.

🌿 Heavily Planted Tank = Happy Cherry Barbs

Cherry Barbs come from shaded, heavily vegetated streams in Sri Lanka. They need a densely planted tank with driftwood, floating plants, and dim lighting. Males display their most intense red coloration with a dark substrate + dark background. Breeding: scatter eggs among fine-leaved plants (Java moss). Condition with live foods. A cool water change often triggers spawning.
