📖 About the Himalayan — Persian × Siamese (1930s)

The Himalayan was created by crossing Persians with Siamese to produce a cat with the Persian's luxurious coat and cobby body, combined with Siamese blue eyes and colorpoint pattern. The project began at Harvard University in the 1930s (studying coat color genetics). CFA recognized Himalayans as a separate breed in 1957, then reclassified them as a colorpoint division of the Persian breed in 1984 — a controversial decision. TICA considers it a separate breed. All Persian genetic diseases apply.

⚠️ PKD Crisis — Same Persian Gene Pool

Himalayans inherit ALL Persian health issues: PKD (DNA test MANDATORY — affected 38% of Persians pre-testing), brachycephalic airway obstruction, eye drainage, dental crowding, heat sensitivity. Daily grooming is non-negotiable — the long cottony coat mats within 24 hours. Professional grooming every 4-6 weeks. Face must be wiped daily. Never buy without proof both parents are PKD-negative.
