Exotic Shorthair Cat
The "lazy man's Persian" — the squishy face of a Persian with a short, plush, easy-care coat. #4 CFA breed. Those huge round eyes, that teddy-bear expression, that dense plush coat requiring a fraction of Persian grooming. Complete guide: the PKD genetic crisis inherited from Persian ancestors (DNA test MANDATORY), the brachycephalic reality, and why this breed has surged past Persians in popularity.

📖 About the Exotic Shorthair — Persian × American Shorthair
The Exotic Shorthair was created in the 1950s when American Shorthair breeders crossed with Persians. The unexpected result: kittens with the Persian's round face and cobby body but with a short, plush, easy-care coat. CFA recognized them in 1967. They've surged to #4 CFA — ahead of Persians. But the gene pool still requires outcrossing to Persians, which means Exotics carry all the same genetic diseases. PKD DNA test is MANDATORY. Also: brachycephalic airway issues, dental crowding, eye drainage.
⚠️ NEVER buy an Exotic kitten without proof BOTH parents are PKD-negative by DNA test. PKD affected 38% of Persians before testing — and Exotics share the same gene pool.
