📋 Species Overview
🔴 The Red Head = Water Quality Meter
Rummy Nose Tetras have a unique and reliable color indicator: their bright ruby-red head coloration intensifies with good water quality and fades to pale pink/white under stress, poor water quality, or illness. If your Rummy Nose heads are pale in the morning, test your water immediately — they're telling you something's wrong before any other fish shows symptoms. They're the ultimate early warning system. They need soft, acidic water (pH 5.5-7.0) and are sensitive to nitrates — keep nitrates below 20 ppm. Best kept in groups of 8+ in a 75L+ heavily planted tank. Their tight, synchronized schooling is one of the most beautiful displays in the hobby.
