🧔 Male Bristles — Sexual Dimorphism

Male Bristlenose Plecos develop fleshy, branching tentacle-like "bristles" on the top and sides of their snout — these are secondary sex characteristics used to attract females and guard eggs. Females may have small bristles around the lip edge but never the dramatic growth of males. Bristles begin developing at 6-8 months.

🪵 Easy Breeding — Provide a Cave!

Bristlenose are cave spawners — give them a PVC pipe, ceramic cave, or driftwood crevice, and they'll do the rest. The male guards the eggs inside the cave, fanning them with his fins until they hatch (5-10 days). Fry stay in the cave for a few more days, then become free-swimming. Feed fry: blanched vegetables, algae wafers, Repashy Soilent Green. One pair can produce 40-100+ fry every 3-4 weeks. Have a plan!
